Great job (and quick) getting the leaves up! However, we did ask for them to be hauled away and they were left in yard bags on the sidewalk. We wanted them to be hauled away knowing it was going to rain this week (which causes the bags to disintegrate) and living on a main street the bags are typically in the way and picked up irregularly by the city.

Landscaping in Denver is a year-round endeavor. This seasonal calendar will help you navigate the timing of popular landscaping projects in The Mile High City.
Spring
- Lawn Care: Mowing season starts in April.
- Planting: If you’d like to add a pop of color with annuals, wait until after May 16 – a good rule of thumb is after Mother’s Day when the last frost has passed.
- Xeriscaping: Spring, summer, and early fall are ideal times to install this low-maintenance, drought-resistant type of landscaping, which originated in Denver.
- Mulch: Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh mulch? Spruce up those garden beds.
- Irrigation: Landscaping needs water from May to October. Note: Denver Water has rules about watering.
- Hardscaping: Many hardscaping projects require mild temperatures for concrete to cure. Be aware that frost can still occur until after May 16.
- Fencing: You can install a fence any time of the year, but it’s easier to dig fence post holes if the ground isn’t frozen.
- Landscape Lighting: Install a landscape lighting package with accent lighting to illuminate your home and plant material.
- Shrub Pruning: Do this in early spring to encourage new growth.
Summer
- Lawn Care: Keep up your mowing schedule, but don’t water between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. because the midday sun steals much of the moisture through evaporation.
- Irrigation System: Inspect for coverage issues in zones. Repair any leaks.
- Fencing: Good time for fence installation, repairs, and painting/staining.
- Landscape Lighting: Check fixtures for damage, and clean lenses.
Fall
- Lawn Care: Mowing season wraps up in November.
- Leaf Cleanup: Rake, blow, or bag your leaves, or hire a local leaf removal crew.
- Planting: Plant bulbs now to bloom in the spring. Cut back any perennials.
- Mulch: Insulate your plant’s roots by adding mulch.
- Irrigation: Blow out your irrigation system. Winterize your sprinkler systems before temps dip below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Hardscaping: You still have time to install hardscaping, including paver walkways, natural stone garden walls, and patios with sitting walls.
- Landscape Lighting: Add until late September or before the ground freezes.
Winter
- Shrub Pruning: Late winter or early spring.
- Hardscaping: Winter is the perfect time to map out your hardscaping projects. That way, come spring, you can grab the top contractors before they get super busy!
