Nashville's Best Tree Care
The capital of Tennessee and the state's most populated city, Nashville is the undisputed center of the country music world and home to almost 700,000 people. Dating back to 1779, the city takes its name from Francis Nash, a brigadier general who fought and died during the Revolutionary War.

Nicknamed the "Athens of the South," Nashville is a center of education with many major universities. There are over 24 post-secondary schools, including Tennessee State, Vanderbilt, Belmont, Fisk, Trevecca Nazarene, and Lipscomb universities. Leaning into this moniker, the city built a full-scale replica of the Athens Parthenon in 1897 to commemorate Nashville's centenary. You can visit it at Centennial Park.
History buffs will love Nashville's most prominent historical buildings. The Hermitage is the former home of U.S. president Andrew Jackson, where he lived from 1837-1845. Rebuilt after a devastating fire, the grounds feature beautiful gardens and Jackson's burial site. The Belle Meade Plantation, built in 1845, is a mansion whose lands saw fighting during the Civil War. To this day, you can see evidence of gunfire in its stately stone columns. Finally, you'll want to learn about the reconstruction of Fort Nashborough. This replica of a 1780 fort provides a glimpse into the lives of some of Nashville's earliest settlers.
The first inhabitants of the area were the Mississippian people, who arrived around 1000 A.D. and made unique earth mounds and pottery. After their disappearance around 1400 A.D., the Cherokee, Shawnee and Chickasaw tribes used the land as a hunting ground. French fur traders established a trading post in 1717. Still, it wasn't until American settlers founded the town of Nashville in 1779 that the area had a permanent settlement. Nashville grew prosperous with trade in iron, thoroughbred horses, tobacco, and hemp.
Like many great Southern cities, the story of Nashville is inextricably linked to slavery and the Civil War. By the 1850s, Nashville was home to over 3,200 slaves and about 700 free African Americans. Nashville joined the Confederacy in secession and became the first Southern capital city to fall to Union troops in 1862.
