Outstanding Orlando Landscaping
One of the most visited cities in the world, Orlando has something going on in every corner. Tourist attractions, major events, and countless conventions draw crowds in by the thousands.
It's often referred to as the "City Beautiful." The name represents the transformation Orlando made in the early 1900s, from a rural cow town to a progressive, attraction-filled city. Look for the large sign as you exit the airport: "Welcome to Orlando, The City Beautiful."
Orlando originated when the U.S. Army built Fort Gatlin. The area served as protection for settlers during the height of the Seminole Wars. By the mid-1800s the area, known as Jernigan, had built up a small community. As expansion continued, several years later the area changed its name and Orlando became incorporated in 1875.
Today, Orlando is home to two of the largest and most renowned tourist attractions. Walt Disney World and Universal Studios generate significant revenue for the city. The largest university in the U.S., the University of Central Florida, attracts even more.
Aside from the theme park scene, Orlando offers countless things to do. There's no better way to start off your morning than with pancakes at Sugar Mill. Before you head down to the water, fuel up at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill Grill and Griddle House. Each table has a griddle where you make your own pancakes. Once your belly is full, head down to Wekiwa Springs State Park. Enjoy canoeing and swimming in the year-round 72-degree temperature water.
The area also has more than 13 miles of shaded hiking trails. You've likely built up an overwhelming thirst after that water-filled fun. Wind down for the day with some brew sampling. Orlando Brewing, Ocean Sun Brewing, and Crooked Can offer a variety of microbrews.
Saving the best for last, the city offers a wide range of food options from seafood to Cuban fare. A hidden gem in the city, Lee and Rick's is the essential spot for fresh oysters. This family-owned joint lies tucked away in a west Orlando neighborhood. Take a seat at the shucking bar and enjoy a fresh bucket, or two, of raw or steamed oysters.
Orlando offers far more to the eye besides the infamous cartoon mouse themed park. Striving to keep the city beautiful, it can be a pain to maintain your own yard at the same level.
