I recently hired LawnStarter for leaf removal, and Iβm very happy with the results. My yard was covered with leaves and small branches after the fall season, and it felt overwhelming to handle on my own. Onel, the service tech, did an excellent job and exceeded my expectations. Onel arrived on time and was very professional and friendly. Before starting, he walked around the yard with me, listened to my concerns, and explained how he planned to clean everything up. He paid close attention to detail, making sure to clear leaves not just from the lawn, but also from under bushes, along the fence, and in hard-to-reach corners. I was especially impressed by how respectful he was of my flower beds and garden features. He worked carefully and didnβt damage anything. When he finished, the yard looked spotless, and all the leaves and debris were hauled awayβno mess left behind. The price was fair, and the entire process was simple and stress-free. Landscaping in beautiful Port St. Lucie is a year-round job. Follow this seasonal guide to make your lawn the crown jewel of the Treasure Coast.
Spring
- Lawn Care: You donβt get much of a break from mowing in Central Florida. Mow as needed coming out of winter, then pick up the pace as the season progresses. Some fast-growing grasses, like Bermuda, will need more frequent cuts. Begin fertilizing in late March when soil temperatures are consistently above 70 degrees Fahrenheit and stop at the end of May. Aerate your lawn if needed.
- Planting: Plant annuals in late February and weed your flower beds throughout the season.
- Mulch: Add, refresh, or replace mulch.
- Irrigation: Water between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Check for area watering restrictions.
- Landscape Lighting: Install outdoor lighting to show off your home and lawn.
Summer
- Lawn Care: Continue to mow weekly and dethatch your grass in early summer. Donβt bother fertilizing since the summer rains will wash it away.
- Planting: Summer is the best time to plant palm trees.
- Irrigation: June-September is our rainy season, so water as needed.
Fall
- Lawn Care: Slow your mowing routine to every other week as the growing season ends in October. Fertilize starting in October.
- Leaf Cleanup: Rake leaves, mulch or blow them, or hire a local leaf removal crew.
- Planting: Plant bulbs now to bloom next year. Plant perennials and winter-blooming trees.
- Mulch: Spread or refresh mulch.
- Irrigation: Fall is the best time to install a sprinkler system. Port St. Lucie has watering restrictions from November to March.
- Hardscaping: Add concrete patios, decks, and fire pits during the fall and winter when the humidity is low and the ground is warm.
- Fencing: Install fencing now through the winter to save money.
Winter
- Lawn Care: Mow and aerate as needed, as well as weed flower beds. Avoid fertilizers.
- Planting: Plant trees, petunias, pansies, snapdragons, and dwarf calendula. Plant annuals, non-flowering shrubs, fruit trees, and bulbs.
- Pruning: Prune your shrubs and trees in late winter or early spring when plants are dormant.
