Leave Landscaping Chores to the Pros in Stockton
The Central Valley city of Stockton is home to more than 300,000 Californians. With a history dating back to the California Gold Rush, today's Stockton is a diverse and welcoming city. Noted for creating a strong community, Stockton has repeatedly been named an All-America City by the National Civic League.
Established during the Gold Rush, Stockton's seaport provides easy trade and transportation. Prospectors took advantage of the San Joaquin River's accessibility, making Stockton an essential inland port. Stockton quickly became a key point of transportation throughout the region. Agriculture was a major industry for the city, which has since added manufacturing and telecommunications companies to its economy.
This development lead, in part, to the Stockton Symphony, which today performs at the Warren Atherton Auditorium. Specializing in visual art, Haggin Museum displays 19th and 20th century works in all mediums. This museum in Victory Park first opened in 1931. For something a little rowdier, Stockton Arena hosts concerts and sporting events. Whether you want to cheer on the Heat or the Kings, or sing along with your favorite performer, it's sure to be happening right in the heart of downtown.
Downton's public spaces also present many festivals throughout the year. These events represent a diverse array of cultures and ethnicities. Celebrating the region's agriculture, the Asparagus Festival takes place every summer. Ever tried asparagus-flavored ice cream? If your kids aren't into veggies, you might want to consider the San Joaquin Children's Film Festival. You can also take them to the Children's Museum or to Pixie Woods, a small amusement park opened since 1954.
DeCarli Square also hosts a number of festivals. Located downtown, the Square is a public space with a waterfall, shade structure, and seating. The Marina, just a few blocks away, offers easy access to paddle boarding and other water sports. And while you're downtown, take a look around and enjoy the city's murals. Painted on the sides of buildings, these works of art depict the city's history.
Also downtown is the Bob Hope Theatre, built in 1930. This movie palace is one of the city's notable historical buildings and sits near a plethora of great eateries. Cast Iron is known for its weekly Sunday brunch, while D'Lilahs Cakery specializes in confections. Legendary Coffee and Books is a great place to stop any time of day. In the evenings, you can enjoy any of Stockton's many bars and clubs.
With an average temperature of 62 F, Stockton is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. But, it can be hard to enjoy your yard if you see nothing but chores everywhere you look.
