Spanning about 350 square miles, nearly one million Texans calls Fort Worth home. Part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area, there's no shortage of food, entertainment, and arts in the region. In 1875, an article published in the Dallas Herald claimed the city was so slow, you could find a panther sleeping outside the courthouse. Though intended as an insult, the locals nicknamed Fort Worth Panther City as it rebounded. Today many businesses and organizations elude to this, including the city's police department which features a panther on its badges.

The completion of the Texas and Pacific Railway recovery aided the area's recovery. This led to a population boom and Forth Worth's distinction as a premier locale for the wholesale cattle trade. While the cows have since migrated onward, Fort Worth still embraces its Western heritage. For example, much of Sundance Square downtown maintains its original 20th-century facade. The stockyards showcase the old-meets-new architecture. Once the central point of sale and trade, this historic district now houses restaurants, shops, and entertainment. From Texas-style BBQ at Cooper's to TexMex at Los Vaqueros, and western apparel at Cavender's and Fincher's, Stockyards National Historic District houses everything Texas. Another aspect of Western culture preserved in Fort Worth is the artwork. The Sid Richardson Museum is famous for the titans of Western art: Remington and Russell.
