Better Landscaping in Greensboro
Greensboro is rich in history and entertainment. It played a significant role in both the Civil War and the civil rights movement. During the final days of the Civil War, Jefferson Davis and his cabinet escaped to Greensboro. This makes it the last meeting place of the Confederate government. For this reason, some consider Greensboro the final capital city of the Confederacy.
On quite the opposite end of history, Greensboro was also the site of civil rights protests in the 1960s. Students from North Carolina A&T State University, a historically black college, were a driving force behind the movement to achieve racial justice and desegregation. In 1960, four students, started a sit-in at Woolworth's segregated lunch counter until they gained service. Known as the Greensboro Four, their courage inspired thousands of protesters across the South.
The city has many museums exploring history and the arts. The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM) in the very same Woolworth's where the Greensboro Four sat. At ICRCM, visitors can celebrate and learn about heroes of the civil rights movement from across the nation. The Weatherspoon Art Museum has one of the largest collections of modern and contemporary art in the southeast United States. Make sure to check out the Greensboro Science Center. It's an interactive experience with a zoological park, aquarium, and full-dome OmniSphere theater.
In addition to museums, the city has a lively performing arts scene. The Greensboro Symphony regularly presents concerts, special events, and educational programs. The Greensboro Ballet is one of the only non-profit ballet companies in North Carolina. They've provided opportunities for local dancers since 1964.
Sports fans enjoy access to a variety of sporting events at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The annual Wyndham Golf Championship is a popular favorite. You can also cheer on local teams. Root for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Carolina Dynamo, and the Greensboro Swarm.
Fans of Greensboro's many facets of entertainment can come together at the end of the day to enjoy the local food scene. The downtown art district is home to the city's go-to fine-dining spot, Table 16, which serves creative New World dishes. The Green Valley Grill serves award-winning European and Mediterranean dishes. Liberty Oak uses quality ingredients from local farmers to create signature dishes and drinks. You can find them inside the oldest building in the Old Greensborough Historic District.
