See the San Antonio Landscape Rather Than Landscaping It
San Antonio is over 300 years old, older than the United States itself. It was part of the Spanish Empire as well as the Mexican Republic before becoming part of the U.S.
While San Antonio is home to the Alamo and many military bases, it's much more than a city with a history tied to Spanish missions and fortresses. One of its nicknames is "River City". The second-most visited attraction in San Antonio is the River Walk across from the Alamo. City founders built it to prevent flooding after a disastrous flood from the San Antonio River in 1921.
The River Walk is one-story below the streets. It holds art displays, historic missions, restaurants, and bars. It's become a favorite tourist destination, certainly better than the large sewer first proposed to stop flooding.
Another unique place in San Antonio is Morgan's Wonderland. It's a theme park for special needs children, offering free admission. There's also an academy for people with special needs, ages 12-24, to help them become productive adults.
Want to get away from the more well-known places around San Antonio? There's no shortage of oddities here. The Bracken Cave holds the largest colony of bats in the world. The cave itself is an ancient sinkhole where an estimated 20-million bats live from March to October. Every night they fly out to catch dinner and at the end of their stay, fly the 1000 miles back to their other home in Mexico.
Be sure to stop by the Hot Wells Hotel and Spa. The once-grand Victorian resort that claimed to have special healing waters. It was the getaway place for celebrities including Rudolph Valentino, Teddy Roosevelt and Charlie Chaplin. All that's left today is the ruins of the three large swimming pools, marble private rooms, and porcelain tubs. It's still fun to see how the rich and famous lived and step back in time.
With so much to see and do in San Antonio, the last thing you want is to be stuck in your yard, updating the landscaping. Why sweat outside working on the property when LawnStarter has an array of professional landscapers just a click away? It's as easy as a jaunt on the River Walk. Start by creating an account on our website or downloading the LawnStarter mobile app. From there, you can schedule, change, cancel, or even put in unique requests. Best part?
