Artful Landscaping in Hialeah
Located in Miami-Dade County and home to more than 233,000 Floridians, Hialeah is a South Florida gem. With the nation's largest population of Cuban Americans, Hialeah is rich in culture. Located between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades, Hialeah sits on a lovely prairie. Likely from Muskogee origin, the city takes its name from the landscape. Incorporated in 1925, this is one of the oldest cities in the area.
Forbes once named Hialeah the country's most boring city, because of its lack of media presence and large population. Even so, there are a lot of wonderful things calling people to make this place home. Amelia Earhart's final layover before her ill-fated trip around the world was here. Hialeah's racetrack also attracted many famous faces. Following its peak in the 1920s, Hialeah Park Race Track fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned. Fortunately, Hialeah Park was the focus of community revitalization and reopened in 2009. Today people love the park for its Mediterranean style architecture, slot machines, quarter horse racing, and concerts. Hialeah Park is also an Audubon Bird Sanctuary because of its large population of flamingos.
Hialeah is also home to an up-and-coming array of artists and galleries. At the center of all this is the Leah Arts District, which offers affordable live/work spaces. Aiming to promote culture and art, this area is full of bright and colorful murals. Garden of the Arts, one of the newest parks in Hialeah, is a cross between a gallery and a museum, with landscaping punctuated by murals and sculptures. The amphitheater hosts concerts and other events throughout the year, so you can pull up some lawn and enjoy the show.
Inviting you to further enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, Bucky Dent Water Park is one of the area's best-kept secrets. With the city's only indoor basketball court, a public pool, and several water slides, it's the perfect place to cool off. If you prefer shade to water, Amelia Earhart Park is the best place for you. Dotted with cypress and oak trees, this city park includes a five-acre Bark Park, soccer fields, and mountain biking trails. Tom Sawyer's Play area, located on an island within the park, is the perfect place for kids to run and explore.
Hialeah isn't only about outdoor living- there are also countless great places to eat. Stephen's Delicatessen first opened its doors in 1954. This New York-style deli serves up classics like corned beef and pastrami. For a more local taste, Chico's Restaurant is another local fixture. Creating authentic Cuban flavors for decades, Chico's is open 24 hours a day to satisfy those late-night cravings.
